Michele Carrano Co-founder & partner
Within the H&A associati Michele Carrano is responsible for development in urban design, landscape, and architectural/compositional fields, working on new buildings and the renovation of complex and protected properties with historical and artistic preservation status.
Born in Venice on March 30, 1967, he graduated in 1994 in Architecture from IUAV Venice under Professor Giorgio Lombardi with an architecture and planning project entitled “Venice. Addition to the Sant’Elena district and new sailing port.”
He obtained his professional qualification and registered with the Order of Architects, Urban Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators of Venice in 1995. Throughout his professional career, with reference to numerous architectural design and composition projects and conservative restoration interventions, he has developed expertise in the fields of architectural/urban scale construction and in the conservative restoration sector, both in design and construction supervision.
A freelance professional since 1995, he founded the following year the design company Arka Srl – Project Management, specializing in architectural and territorial design, engineering and safety, with offices in Venice. In 2007, together with engineer Antonio Pantuso and architect Carlo Pagan, he established the design company ArkaAssociati based in Porto Marghera, Venice. In 2015, he co-founded the design company H&A associati, which combines the existing realities of ArkaAssociati and architect Piero Giovannini’s HYD studio.
Michele Carrano, together with the other partners of H&A associati – Antonio Pantuso, Piero Giovannini, Carlo Pagan, and Matteo Cibin – consolidates previous compositional experiences, expanding design activities to include urban planning and landscape sectors, creating a reality that combines large-scale projects such as urban plans, green spaces and parks design with territorial feasibility studies and development of building sector aspects, both for new construction and renovations.
Matteo Cibin Partner
Within the organization of H&A Associati, Matteo Cibin is responsible for architectural design and urban regeneration, combining the coordination of design teams with oversight of administrative procedures.
Born in Dolo (Venice) on November 2, 1984, he graduated in Architecture from the IUAV University of Venice in 2010 under the supervision of Professor Antonio Val, with a thesis focused on architecture and urban regeneration titled “Social Housing in the Lagoon Edge Area.”
He obtained his professional license and registered with the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators of Venice in 2011.
A freelance professional since 2011, he began his career working with firms involved in the urban redevelopment of disused sites. He later returned to Arka Associati, where he had previously completed an internship during his studies, acting as a consultant for the development of urban planning amendments and architectural projects.
In 2023, he became a partner at the architectural firm H&A Associati.
Piero Giovannini Co-founder & partner
Within the H&A Associati team, Architect Piero Giovannini is responsible for projects in the hospitality and residential sectors, both in Italy and abroad, with a particular focus on architectural development and interior design. He is also involved in product design development.
Piero Giovannini (Trieste, 1975) graduated in Architecture from the IUAV University of Venice under the supervision of Professor Vittorio Spigai, with a thesis on the functional reuse of Villa Sgaravatti: the Mediatheque.
He has been a registered architect with the Order of Architects of Venice (No. 3501) since 2004.
After graduating, he collaborated with METRON SA Greece, an architectural firm specialized in luxury residential design in Greece.
In 2005, he co-founded Studio HYD Architettura in Venice, a practice focused on residential architecture with projects in Venice, Dubai, Rome, Paris, and Shanghai.
In 2008, he became Art Director of Gruppo Trombini Spa, and in 2009, he was invited to speak at events on residential architecture, including a lecture series at the Palazzo della Triennale di Milano alongside Professor Philippe Daverio.
In 2010, his project LabShoW—a center of excellence for interior design in Ravenna—earned him a place among the “Top 20 Young Italian Architects”.
In 2015, together with architects Michele Carrano, Carlo Pagan, and engineer Antonio Pantuso, he co-founded H&A Associati, based in Venice.
In 2017, he became a founding partner of H&A Architecture Consulting, Ltd., headquartered in Shanghai, China.
Carlo Pagan Co-founder & partner
Born in Mestre in 1975, he studied at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV), graduating in the History and Conservation of Architectural and Environmental Heritage, with a thesis on Venetian timber foundation systems.
In 2005, he qualified as an architect and became a registered member of the Order of Architects of Venice. Since then, he has practiced as a designer and site supervisor, with particular focus on the enhancement, protection, and conservation of architectural and artistic heritage, as well as their adaptive reuse.
In 2013, alongside his professional activities and public administrative roles, he obtained a second degree in Architecture, also from IUAV Venice.
He held administrative and political positions within the Municipality of Venice from 2005 to 2014, including work with the City Council and chairmanship of council commissions. He was entrusted with responsibilities in the areas of environmental and urban planning policies, territorial safety, strategic planning, the Special Law for Venice, and the management of Sites of National Interest (SIN).
In recent years, leveraging both of his Master’s degrees and a range of public and private appointments, he has developed advanced expertise in architectural and urban design, particularly in relation to adaptive reuse, restoration, conservation, enhancement, and urban regeneration.
He has extensive experience within the Venetian context, having worked for many years on matters related to the restoration and maintenance of the historic city, as well as on structural consolidation, diagnostics, and structural monitoring.
He also possesses significant expertise in strategic urban and territorial planning, and in the management of technical-administrative procedures relating to the transformation and development of real estate assets. His skills also encompass urban planning procedures, particularly those related to territorial and environmental programming and development.
In recent years, he has gained substantial experience in the field of public-private partnership agreements, and in the management of urban equalization strategies, demonstrating the ability to guide and facilitate new administrative opportunities within the evolving relationship between public authorities and private stakeholders.
As a founding partner of Studio H&A Associati, he is responsible for the technical and scientific direction of both the studio’s Department of Restoration and Conservation, and the Urban Lab, which focuses on real estate, territorial, and landscape planning.
He is also President of MESA S.r.l., a company that has been operating at the national level for nearly two decades, specializing in economic and financial evaluations of real estate assets and urban and building transformations.
Antonio Pantuso Co-founder & partner
Born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia in 1962, he earned a degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering from the University of Calabria.
He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Technologies and New Materials from the University of Bologna.
He has conducted research abroad within the framework of the Training Mobility Research project, focusing on the strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using carbon fiber composites, at West Virginia University in Morgantown, USA, and at the Institut für Baustoffe, Massivbau und Brandschutz of the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany.
In collaboration with the IUAV University of Venice, he participated in a pilot project involving the structural behavior analysis and mechanical property assessment of masonry structures of the bell tower of the Church of Santa Fosca on the island of Torcello, Venice.
Since 2007, he has been a contract professor at the IUAV University of Venice, teaching Structural Mechanics.
He took part, first with the Veneto Civil Protection and later with IUAV University, in two post-earthquake technical assessment campaigns, including the 2003 L’Aquila earthquake, surveying both civil buildings and heritage-listed structures.
In 2007, together with Michele Carrano and Carlo Pagan, he founded Studio Arka Associati, and in 2015 co-founded H&A srl in partnership with Studio HYD of architect Piero Giovannini.
Among the most significant projects personally carried out are:
- Structural rehabilitation using composite materials of the Cooling Tower in Marghera (Design and Site Supervision);
- Design and Site Supervision of a new steel-framed industrial building in Marghera, Venice, equipped with two overhead cranes of 250 tons each;
- Structural restoration and seismic upgrading of the Accademia Bridge in Venice;
- Structural design and supervision of static reinforcement and seismic retrofitting works at Palazzo Donà Giovanelli in Venice.
He is currently engaged in professional practice, providing design and site supervision services for the following contracting authorities:
- Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport
- Fire Brigade Command of Cosenza
- Patriarchate of Venice Diocese
- Municipality of Venice
- Municipality of Genoa
- Municipality of Vedelago
- Municipality of Castelfranco Veneto

He is a certified post-earthquake damage assessor for the National Technical Structure, responsible for impact assessments, damage surveys, and habitability evaluations.
He is qualified as Health and Safety Coordinator during both the design and execution phases (CSP and CSE) pursuant to Legislative Decree 81/2008 – Consolidated Law on Safety in the Workplace.
He currently teaches the course Theory and Analysis of Timber Structures at the IUAV University of Venice.

obtained her First and Second Level Diplomas from the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona (in 2006 and 2008, respectively), and a Master’s Degree in Interior Design from NAD – New Academy of Design in 2019.
