Master plan for a new city on water of 465 hectares. The studio works in collaboration with architect Roberto D’Agostino. Water has been interpreted as an essential element of the urban design. In anticipation of the filling in of the original saltworks, an urban plan was conducted to closely combine the waterways to the rest of the territory. The main backbone of the central canal branches out into the secondary canals, creating a hierarchy of spaces and volumes which respects the tradition of the cities on water. H&A designed the new urban project following the smart city rules: study of the green system, bicycle and walking paths inspired by the concept of slow mobility, residential areas surrounded by vegetation, composition rules for the urban sprawl. All of this resulted in a dynamic, carbon free, human scale city, with a high quality of life.
