Master plan for a new city on water of 465 hectares. The studio works in collaboration with architect Roberto D’Agostino. Water has been interpreted as an essential element of the urban design. In anticipation of the filling in of the original saltworks, an urban plan was conducted to closely combine the waterways to the rest of the territory. The main backbone of the central canal branches out into the secondary canals, creating a hierarchy of spaces and volumes which respects the tradition of the cities on water. H&A designed the new urban project following the smart city rules: study of the green system, bicycle and walking paths inspired by the concept of slow mobility, residential areas surrounded by vegetation, composition rules for the urban sprawl. All of this resulted in a dynamic, carbon free, human scale city, with a high quality of life.

Architectural and structural design for a landmark building commissioned by the city of Wei Fang, at the mouth of the Bailang River.

At the end of a walk on the water, the tower develops upwards as a metal tape crowned by a transparent “lantern”, like a lighthouse 150 m high facing the sea and towards the land. At the base of the tower is a shopping center, while on top there are several restaurants and a terrace from which you can enjoy a beautiful 360° view of the surrounding landscape.

Masterplan for a new city on the water of 465 hectares.

The project developed by the studio in collaboration with arch. Roberto D’Agostino interpreted the presence of water as an essential element in urban design.
The prediction of the burial of the original salt mines has led to an urban design that closely combines the navigable routes to the rest of the territory. The main backbone of the central canal splits into secondary channels creating a hierarchy of spaces and volumes respectful of the tradition of cities on the water.

H&A has designed the new urban sector according to the rules of the smart city: the study of the system of green and public areas with slow mobility cyclopedonal, residential areas immersed in greenery, compositional rules for a diffuse city, have resulted in a carbon-free, dynamic, human-sized city with a high quality of life.
